The Company Directory gives you direct access to a global database of businesses maintained by TheCompaniesAPI (TCA). It’s the starting point for manual TAM research, building targeted account segments, and discovering companies you haven’t considered yet. Every record in the directory can be promoted to a full Signal Ark account with a single click, at which point enrichment and signal monitoring begin automatically.

What you can do in the directory

Global search

Search by domain, company name, industry, employee count, or revenue bracket across millions of records worldwide.

Watchlists

Save interesting companies to a personal Watchlist to track them without adding them to your active account pipeline.

Instant promotion

Promote any directory record to a first-class Signal Ark account with one click, triggering enrichment and signal monitoring.

AI industry classification

Use Signal Ark’s AI classifier to automatically assign companies without a standard industry tag into your custom taxonomy.

Filtering the directory

Use the filter panel on the left side of the directory to narrow results by:
  • Industry — NAICS/SIC categories or custom taxonomy labels
  • Employee count — ranges from under 10 to 10,000+
  • Revenue — annual revenue brackets
  • Geography — country, region, or city
  • Tech stack — specific tools, platforms, or categories (e.g., Salesforce, AWS, Kubernetes)
  • YC batch — filter by Y Combinator cohort year and sector
  • Funding status — bootstrapped, seed, Series A–D, public
You can combine multiple filters to build precise segments. Save any filter combination as a Segment for quick reuse.

Adding companies to your account list

Single account

Open any company record and click Promote to Account. Signal Ark runs the standard enrichment waterfall (TCA, then PDL) to fill in missing firmographic data and immediately begins monitoring for signals.

Bulk promotion

When your filter produces a segment you want to import in bulk:
1

Apply your filters

Use the filter panel to define the segment — for example, SaaS companies in London with 50–200 employees.
2

Review the promotion preview

Click Bulk Promote. Before consuming any credits, Signal Ark shows you a detailed preview: how many companies matched, how many already exist in your workspace, and the total enrichment credit cost for net-new records.
3

Confirm the import

If the preview looks right, click Confirm. Enrichment runs in the background and accounts appear in your workspace as each one completes.
Accounts that already exist in your workspace are not re-enriched unless their firmographic data is stale, so bulk promotions that overlap with your existing list won’t double-count credits.

Y Combinator companies

The directory includes a dedicated YC filter that surfaces Y Combinator alumni by batch year and sector. This makes it straightforward to build targeted lists of YC-backed startups — a common segment for early-stage sales teams targeting high-growth companies with fresh capital. To access it, open the Tags filter and select Y Combinator, then optionally narrow by batch (e.g., W23, S24) or sector.

Watchlists

If you’re not ready to add a company to your active account list but want to keep an eye on it, add it to a Watchlist. Watchlisted companies don’t count against your monitored account seat limit and don’t consume enrichment credits. You can promote a watchlisted company to a full account at any time.
Use Watchlists for companies that are almost-but-not-quite ICP fit. When a trigger event occurs — like a funding round or an executive hire — Signal Ark can alert you so you can promote the account at exactly the right moment.
