# Keyword Listening

> Track exact phrases, exclude noise, and route specific mentions to your timeline.

The Keyword Listener allows you to track custom terminology—like your competitors' names, specific industry pain points, or niche technologies—across SignalArk's data sources.

## Configuring Rules

You can access Keyword Listening under the **Signals > Keywords** tab. A keyword rule consists of:

    Enter exact phrases or keywords. SignalArk uses exact phrase matching to ensure high relevance.

  <Step title="Excluded Terms">
    Filter out noise. For example, if tracking the company "Apple", you might exclude "fruit", "orchard", and "juice".

  <Step title="Source Scope">
    Limit the search to specific sources. You might want to track "Data Breach" only in News and SEC filings, but ignore it on Reddit.
  </Step>

## Rule Statuses & Preview

Rules operate in one of three states:

* **Draft:** Being configured, not actively scanning.
* **Active:** Continuously evaluated against incoming data via the Post-Ingestion Pipeline.
* **Muted:** Temporarily paused due to high noise or irrelevance.

  Before activating a rule, use the **Preview** function to run the query against historical data. This helps you calibrate your excluded terms and prevent flooding your workspace with false positives.

## Routing via Play Templates

When an active keyword rule triggers a match, it is classified as a high-intent market signal. You can route these specific hits directly to your team by setting up a **High Intent Keyword Match** Play Template, which delivers the signal via Slack or Webhook instantly.
